Sometimes, I have to wonder if he might be worse? [He definitely seems sheepish about that. For Yamato, the amount of pleasure that he gets out of bloodshed, (and especially bloodshed brought about by him,) must be frightening for anyone from an outside perspective. Yamato is trusted, just not trusted to have... limitations. SO, the thought is quickly dismissed.]
Right, Hijikata-san! I'll make sure to forward you copies, so that you know what people might be looking for when they come. [Bright smiles! Honestly, being given small reassurances and allowances like this means a lot to Horikawa, especially when worded such a way from Hijikata himself, is always something that brightens his day?] Ah, I wonder if that's really suited to you, though? I hope that your talents aren't going to waste ー it's no good if you're stuck with a job like that, and you don't feel anything for it. You'll come to the dojo to keep our training up too, won't you?
[ Honestly, maybe Yasusada is worse. Not even Souji gets too bad... Well, unless he's drunk, maybe. When that happens only Saitou can stop him... Although, he can't help but be curious about how Yasusada fights? Even so, Hijikata is still wary about how he's on #The List, while Mikazuki wasn't- he doesn't want another sprained wrist?! There's not must you can do when that happens! ]
Ah, well... [ He rubs the back of his head. His eyes dart from left to right... Hmm... ] It's fine.
[ He thinks, at least...? Once again, like he stated earlier: he can't complain and not to mention there's only so much you can say about jobs you pick up Just Because. Hijikata's definitely not trying to rain on anyone's (especially Horikawa's) parade, or anything okay. Oh! If there's one thing he can be #passionate about it's the Dojo at least! So with a nod: ] Of course.
It's nice to finally have a place that's more familiar. [ Kendo training at the gym? Kind of weird still, BUT A DOJO... Definitely hits him with much nostalgia, so a part of him can't help but immediately gravitate towards anything Dojo-related right now in this weird colony of new things. As weird as it sounds, maybe (but this is someone who practically went Dojo-to-Dojo when they were younger? these places were important to him!). Also, if there's one thing he can do is at least keep up with his personal training... Did Horikawa just say 'our' though? ] Are you implying that you're going to join as well, or?
[ Just curious, of course. He doesn't mind it one bit really. ]

[He's definitely worse. Please don't die, Hijikata-san. You are very loved by Horikawa, and with whom will Kanedaki bond upon his arrival if not his vice commander and previous master? That's a no-go, so never mind sprained wrists, that list is doing miracles in keeping heads attached to bodies when it comes to the Die-jo. It has to get its name from somewhere, right?]
It really is more comfortable, isn't it? [He'll be the last to admit that he's still struggling here andt here with the technology, (okay, no he won't,) but having something like a dojo in the city nonetheless feels like he's been able to take a little piece of home and bring it here. Whether that dojo be the kind that Hijikata would often spend time in, or the sort of setting that was found in the citadel. They're somewhere that feels like home, especially to a sword such as him. Before he can really think about it, he finds himself smiling at those kinds of thoughts.]
Huh? Of course! [He sounds kind of surprised that otherwise would have been assumed.] I may train beginners, but that doesn't mean that I neglect my training, Hijikata-san! I wondered if it might be good for us to train together too, though.
[ Look! This is Hijikata Toshizou, with the strongest will to live but the strongest will to die... If it's for the Shinsengumi, that is! Horikawa doesn't have to worry since he wouldn't dare die while being separated from his comrades... Especially since he has to make sure to find them, protect them and make sure they're okay and- you get the point. He's trying to stay really positive that they're all just fine but!? It's really difficult! Either way, he'll be okay! He just hit a bump in the road of his life at Cerealia...
Even so... There's no way he's going to show any weakness to Horikawa... He has to stay strong and be the Vice Commander that Horikawa knows him as, of course! ]
Hmm, I missed that atmosphere. Despite the people in it being different [ Not the troops he spent time with drilling everyday, ] at least it's still like a piece of home.
[ A small nod.
Maybe he should've expected for Horikawa to join him when it comes to training? This is Horikawa... And Hijikata has already a month ago that Horikawa is incredibly enthusiastic around Hijikata. Not going to lie- it's definitely An Experience. However, he doesn't hate it. As his treasured Waki maybe it was a bit nice and comforting to have someone like him always by his side. ]
Well, first... I need to assess where your skills are right now. [ A beat. ] You may be my sword, and I do believe you are just as talented, but I still rather see it for myself.
[ And why not? It's a good way to warm up anyway. ]
[As expected, it makes sense that someone like Hijikata Toshizo would share these feelings for a dojo of all places, and Horikawa looks seriously pleased by the commentary that's offered up. Just as he should expect from his cool and strong (used to be) master! As far as the suggestion go, he gives an expectant look to the path behind them and the sword at his side, because obviously Hijikata means in the dojo, but nods eagerly nonetheless.]
Of course, I'd be happy to have this opportunity! [Besides the fact that he's only had level 1 beginner NPCs to spar with as of late, Kanesada's habits are also rubbing off on him. They're practical, but he should focus on how to do things properly before moving onto the more underhanded way of doing things, shouldn't he? For the time being:] When should it be?
[ At least Horikawa is enthusiastic! If Hijikata is going to assess what level Horikawa is at he has to make sure Horikawa is ready and motivated to give it his all!
When should they do it... ]
That's a good question... [ There's a thoughtful hand placed to his chin as he ponders this. Theeen after some silence. ]
Alright, well after our walk maybe we can find a good place- gives us time to stretch our legs and relax. Do you maybe want to practice outside since it is a nice day or check the dojo again? [ It'd be kind of disappointing if they went back to the dojo and it was still crowded. Why not use whatever setting they have at the moment? You always can't have all your fights in a dojo, an ultimate test for adaptation and skill- so maybe it would be a good idea to assess Horikawa like this, hmm... ]
[He waits patiently for the thoughtfulness to pass, and the solution posed is good. Horikawa doesn't mind a spar that approaches so soon at all, since there's never too much of an opportunity to stretch his legs in such a way. Especially against someone whose tactics he admires the most. He's quick to agree to all of Hijikata's proposals, adding on just a couple of his own.]
That sounds good, Hijikata-san! I'll keep an eye out for somewhere if we pass it. If we don't find anywhere, I thought I remembered places outside to spar at the dojo, so I'm sure there's a good place either way! In that case, I look forward to it.
