[ so when hijikata had handed him the kimono, he hadn't really... looked up... or at him at all... because he was intent on trying to rub out the stain as best as possible!! this is his strongest pen for the most delicate of fabrics!! maybe if he does this right, he'll be praised!
but when hijikata says that, tsurumaru snaps his head up, before hijikata's had a chance to go to the closet.
