You are and you would be right. I suppose I had to make peace because back then I didn't have a voice let alone a body in the way that I do now. [ After a thousand years of stagnation however, he's a bit stuck in his old ways? He's slowly been learning to accept a little more outside of his comfort zone lately but they're tip toes more than full on steps of progress. ]
As a sword, I may always seek out a master who will appreciate me as a sword and not just a prize. Who will marvel at me not for my beauty or elegance but for my strength. Though... [ THOUGH! ] I have been wondering if I could be independent too?
Ah, but such thoughts often lead to corruption or so I've heard.
[ Once again, he kind of forgets they were all just swords with no body after awhile? Kind of sucks! ]
I guess the saying old habits die hard is pretty true, huh... [ sip of tea! ]
Being independent - that's a bit unheard of for the nature of you guys... But I don't see why not.
[ A sword without a master... It's kind of hard to think about! Mostly because once the master goes away it's only natural for the sword to be put away as well, right? Not that Hijikata will argue 'you can't do that' because he did say Mikazuki is kind of his own person now. ]
I think that's the first time I've heard of that... What do you mean by corruption?
Corruption is...simply put, when a sword's spirit becomes corrupted. Typically it's caused by going against why the saniwa manifested us in the first place. If we try to alter history due to personal feelings...ah well, it's not advised.
[ He won't get into the specifics of corruption but that's the gist of it. There are probably some special cases here and there...he sips his tea again...very thoughtfully... ] All sword spirits are susceptible to it. Some perhaps more than others.
...As far as I know, there's no way to reverse it once it's happened either.
[ Huh... That's an interesting concept... Hijikata doesn't think he's heard about it? Not even from other swords he's close with like Kashuu and Tsurumaru. Although, they never really go into conversation topics about them being sword tsukumogamis in the first place. ]
That sounds pretty dangerous.
Although, a part of me also wants to say you don't know if you try. [ Being independent, and all that junk. ]
However, if that's a worry... I think you're capable of finding a way to make yourself happy while avoiding it.
Sometimes you just have to wait it out, you know? But patience like that pays off - but if you ever feel lonely or frustrated about it you can always come to me to chat, if that makes you feel any better.
[ which... might not since Hijikata sucks at talking about hey! He Tries (especially for a good sword... person... like Mikazuki)! ] If there's one thing I learned from my life is that you can achieve anything if you don't give up and keep working hard at it... It's a long mountain climb, but if you fall then you'll find yourself at the bottom again. So it's best to keep climbing.
It's all something to think over...Mikazuki isn't necessarily worried he would corrupt if he chose to be more independent. He'll sip his tea prior to smiling at the vice-captain...he may think he's not a very good conversationalist or a conversation partner but Mikazuki has never had any real trouble with it?
Maybe because Mikazuki himself tends to talk a lot -- ] That almost sounds like one of your haikus! Ahaha, I appreciate the advice.
I always feel...hmm...more relaxed after talking to you? Your insight is always appreciated as a friend. [ ACTUALLY...now that he thinks about it... ] I do believe you are my first human friend since I arrived in the colony? So you have a special place in my heart, as the saying goes. [ sparkle! ]
