[He does his best, yes >:)

But listen, variety is the spice of life? Nobody knows better than Horikawa that Hijikata is probably living boringly af, especially in regards to the fact that theres like, nobody from his home here. He deserves some good company? A good walk? A good view of the nature that is not exactly the first and most visible thing while he attends to his lingerie shop? And that is what Horikawa is here for! A grin on his face, he nods along and doesn't hesitate in turning swiftly on his heel to head towards the proper entrance of the dojo ー Hijikata, of course, he only assumes will take the lead quickly enough.]

Mm! I've heard that it can be very elegant, depending on where you look. I wonder if we can enjoy the sights. [He gives a thoughtful, comfortable hum.] It just seems like such a waste to stand around, especially when we aren't even teaching the beginners. When we come back, some space could have opened up?

ugh.... hijikatas only friends are made thru this method

[Horikawa follows along and definitely makes sure he keeps up while Hijikata takes his rightful leading place, and acting as such a gentleman? No wonder he's popular. Anyway, the fresh breeze is totally refreshing, and his eyes shine as he takes in the surroundings. Nice location, dojo! Even the signs look nice to him :) ]

I remember seeing some people sparring outdoors! Though, there seemed to be more spectators out there.

[Maybe the beginners were too shy to test their skills in front of an audience? Which is pretty dumb, to be honest, since you learn to wield a sword more for skill and less for show, though sometimes those audiences the skilled will attract can root for the sparring partner who isn't their vice commander smh smh. If it's a temperature deal then maybe that's understandable though; it's pretty warm out! Stretch, stretch.]

Have you had lots of spars lately, Hijikata-san? I remember seeing you and Mikazuki-san, but you seem to be better now!

You didn't know?

[Jeez, did Hijikata just get so excited about the chance to spar again that he entirely skipped the idea of a tour? Well, it is pretty exciting, so he can't exactly be blamed on that account. That the time had continued to pass while he was unawares is still pretty surprising! In any case, a somewhat sheepish expression crosses his face when he gets doxxed on his lack of sparring.]

Mm, well, I'm definitely keeping up with my training! And I have been giving lessons here and there, but I guess I haven't had any notable spars lately, huh.

[Whoops. Well, anyway, he gives a bemused tilt of his head in the place of a shrug, offering up a smile to accompany it.]

I don't have any reason in particular. Everybody has seemed busy so far taking advantage of the chances, so I wondered if it might be better to let others like Yasusada-kun blow off steam while they needed to?

[OK WELL FIRST OF ALL,]

Have you seen any of his fights, Hijikata-san? [A REAL Q, because nobody who's seen Yamato in a """spar""" and who is also in their right mind would allow him to fight a beginner level opponent. They'd be scrubbing blood out of the walls and floors and paying damages for days. Not to mention the way he'd been cheering for Jiji during the prior match... No, Yamato's a menace, and even if he's a menace that Horikawa would (usually) trust his life to, we don't play those games with strangers.] It might be a little strange, but I think it's probably important to have something up like that! Ah, though, well... Concerning myself, I do my best!

[HE'S... not sure what else he's supposed to say. While he's pretty confident in his abilities, and he takes pride in attempting to follow the sort of examples set by Hijikata and Kanesan, he's also got to be pretty humble about this too, right? Not to mention he is... more prone to getting his ass kicked by serious opponents than somebody like, (checks Nagasone's Gumi Ratings™) Kashuu. ANYWAY, at least work is pretty easy to talk about. ]

Lately, I had to ask Mikazuki-san to fill in for Yasusada-kun in helping me sample the pieces so that I could make my deadline, but it turned out very well! I think that he seemed to enjoy it. Should I send you a copy of it when it's published?

Sometimes, I have to wonder if he might be worse? [He definitely seems sheepish about that. For Yamato, the amount of pleasure that he gets out of bloodshed, (and especially bloodshed brought about by him,) must be frightening for anyone from an outside perspective. Yamato is trusted, just not trusted to have... limitations. SO, the thought is quickly dismissed.]

Right, Hijikata-san! I'll make sure to forward you copies, so that you know what people might be looking for when they come. [Bright smiles! Honestly, being given small reassurances and allowances like this means a lot to Horikawa, especially when worded such a way from Hijikata himself, is always something that brightens his day?] Ah, I wonder if that's really suited to you, though? I hope that your talents aren't going to waste ー it's no good if you're stuck with a job like that, and you don't feel anything for it. You'll come to the dojo to keep our training up too, won't you?

[You need to be #Passionate, Hiji!]

[He's definitely worse. Please don't die, Hijikata-san. You are very loved by Horikawa, and with whom will Kanedaki bond upon his arrival if not his vice commander and previous master? That's a no-go, so never mind sprained wrists, that list is doing miracles in keeping heads attached to bodies when it comes to the Die-jo. It has to get its name from somewhere, right?]

It really is more comfortable, isn't it? [He'll be the last to admit that he's still struggling here andt here with the technology, (okay, no he won't,) but having something like a dojo in the city nonetheless feels like he's been able to take a little piece of home and bring it here. Whether that dojo be the kind that Hijikata would often spend time in, or the sort of setting that was found in the citadel. They're somewhere that feels like home, especially to a sword such as him. Before he can really think about it, he finds himself smiling at those kinds of thoughts.]

Huh? Of course! [He sounds kind of surprised that otherwise would have been assumed.] I may train beginners, but that doesn't mean that I neglect my training, Hijikata-san! I wondered if it might be good for us to train together too, though.

[As expected, it makes sense that someone like Hijikata Toshizo would share these feelings for a dojo of all places, and Horikawa looks seriously pleased by the commentary that's offered up. Just as he should expect from his cool and strong (used to be) master! As far as the suggestion go, he gives an expectant look to the path behind them and the sword at his side, because obviously Hijikata means in the dojo, but nods eagerly nonetheless.]

Of course, I'd be happy to have this opportunity! [Besides the fact that he's only had level 1 beginner NPCs to spar with as of late, Kanesada's habits are also rubbing off on him. They're practical, but he should focus on how to do things properly before moving onto the more underhanded way of doing things, shouldn't he? For the time being:] When should it be?

[He waits patiently for the thoughtfulness to pass, and the solution posed is good. Horikawa doesn't mind a spar that approaches so soon at all, since there's never too much of an opportunity to stretch his legs in such a way. Especially against someone whose tactics he admires the most. He's quick to agree to all of Hijikata's proposals, adding on just a couple of his own.]

That sounds good, Hijikata-san! I'll keep an eye out for somewhere if we pass it. If we don't find anywhere, I thought I remembered places outside to spar at the dojo, so I'm sure there's a good place either way! In that case, I look forward to it.

[Sparkle sparkle, as they walk.]
